Atomic Robots (and Other Toys)
Review of Diamond Select Toys Universal Monsters Select Frankenstein Action Figure

This is my first toy review for this blog, something I'm planning on making a regular feature.  Since were in the middle of October's Countdown to Halloween, I'm starting off with a review of Diamond Select Toys Universal Monsters Select Frankenstein (actually Frankenstein's Monster) Action Figure.

Packaging: 3 Robots

Packaging is fine, basically a big plastic window to showcase the toy.  Bonus points for featuring big graphics of Boris Karloff on the front and side.  Points off for using some annoying twist ties inside the package, making it harder than it should have been to free him from the plastic.

Appearance(Sculpt/Paint/Likeness): 4 Robots

This is a cool looking figure.  The sculpt is a very reasonable likeness of Boris Karloff as the Monster.  The paint job is pretty good, especially on his hands, which have a kind of gnarly, decayed look to them.  There are no defects on the paint job that I can see.

Articulation/Playability: 1 Robot

Articulation is practically nonexistent.  His arms move forward slightly, and that's it.  This is really more of a plastic statue than an actual action figure.  That's fine if you just want this to stand on your shelf and look cool, but not that great if you actually want to play with it as a toy, or come up with some interesting poses for it.

Accessories: 3 Robots

This only comes with one accessory, but it's a neat one: a nice "operating table" from Frankenstein's laboratory.  You can lay the figure on it, but the lack of articulation prevents him from laying down completely flat, and it looks slightly off.  It works better as something to pose the figure in front of on a shelf.

Cool Factor: 4 Robots

It's Boris Karloff as Frankenstein!  You can't get much cooler than that.
Toy Party! (Who Invited Naked Mego Batman?)

Value: 3 Robots

I paid about $25 for this with shipping, which is about what I would expect to pay for something like this.

Final Score: 3 Robots

Rating: 3 Robots (out of 5)
