Retro Wednesday! Funko and Super 7's SDCC 2014 Sloth ReAction Figure

I can't quite put my finger on it... but there's something that's just a little bit "off" about this Superman action figure.

Today on Retro Wednesdays, it's Sloth from The Goonies!  There are two versions of this figure available, the mass market version in a plain blue t-shirt, and the limited edition 2014 San Diego Comic Con version, wearing a Superman t-shirt.  I'm guessing that they probably have to pay a licensing fee for the Superman logo, which is why it's not available on the mass market version.  As far as I'm concerned, Sloth just isn't Sloth without his Superman t-shirt, so paying a little extra to get this version was a no-brainer.  Was it worth it?  Read on to find out!

I have a confession to make.  I never saw The Goonies when I was a kid.  In fact, I watched this movie for the first time this year.  I know, I know... but I've seen it now, and it's totally great, okay?  The Goonies came out when I was 13 years old, and I was going through a phase where I thought I was too "mature" to watch kid's movies.  A few years before and I still would have been a kid, a few years later and I would realize I could watch whatever I wanted, because who gives a f--k.  But because the movie hit during my awkward jr. high rebellion period, I missed out.

Incidentally, this was the same period in my life where I gave away all of my vintage Star Wars toys, which is something I've come to regret dearly.  Not because they would be worth money now, although some of them would be, but because I really want to play with them!

So, as I was saying, I finally watched The Goonies this year, and I'm super glad I did, if for no other reason than to know why I could never mention the candy Baby Ruth without someone repeating it back to me in a weird Scooby Doo voice.  Seriously, though, this is a fun, fun movie, and as soon as I saw it, I knew the characters would make great action figures.  It's seems really strange that they didn't make figures for this movie back when it was originally released, I think kids back then would have loved them.  But Funko and Super 7 have come to the rescue with their new collection of retro Goonies figures from their ReAction action figure line.  The full lineup for the first wave is Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, and Sloth.  Hopefully if these sell well Funko will release another wave with the other kids and the villains.

Sloth is a great looking figure.  My only complaint about him is that they left his hair as unpainted flesh color, and as a result it doesn't look like hair so much as a disfigurement to his scalp.  He does have a great pirate hat to cover it up, though.  The pirate hat has been sculpted specifically to fit on Sloth's head, so it fits perfectly, although it probably won't fit on another figure if you wanted to start swapping accessories.

This is kind of weird.  The original photo had Sloth wearing a Superman t-shirt.  Then they photoshopped the logo off for the mass market toy package.  Then they photoshopped a different Superman logo back on the shirt for the limited edition version.
