I can't quite put my finger on it... but there's something that's just a little bit "off" about this Superman action figure. |
"Hey you guys!" |
I have a confession to make. I never saw The Goonies when I was a kid. In fact, I watched this movie for the first time this year. I know, I know... but I've seen it now, and it's totally great, okay? The Goonies came out when I was 13 years old, and I was going through a phase where I thought I was too "mature" to watch kid's movies. A few years before and I still would have been a kid, a few years later and I would realize I could watch whatever I wanted, because who gives a f--k. But because the movie hit during my awkward jr. high rebellion period, I missed out.
Incidentally, this was the same period in my life where I gave away all of my vintage Star Wars toys, which is something I've come to regret dearly. Not because they would be worth money now, although some of them would be, but because I really want to play with them!

The Goonies "Sloth" blister card, front and back. |
Sloth is a great looking figure. My only complaint about him is that they left his hair as unpainted flesh color, and as a result it doesn't look like hair so much as a disfigurement to his scalp. He does have a great pirate hat to cover it up, though. The pirate hat has been sculpted specifically to fit on Sloth's head, so it fits perfectly, although it probably won't fit on another figure if you wanted to start swapping accessories.
I hope you enjoyed this look a Funko and Super 7's Sloth ReAction figure. So far on Retro Wednesdays, I've only featured ReAction figures, so next week I'll take a look at a retro 3 3/4 inch figure from a different company. So I'll either be checking out something from Bif Bang Pow's Twilight Zone line, or Amok Time's new The Day the Earth Stood Still figures. Which one will it be? Tune in to find out! Also, be sure to come back on Friday for my latest installment of Retro Fridays, when I'll be examining Kenner's 1978 Princess Leia figure, as I slowly rebuild my long lost Kenner Star Wars collection. See you then!

Great review, man.
ReplyDeleteI'm sticking mostly to the horror side of things for the retro/ reaction figures, but these Goonies figures are really cool. My wife and I have the complete set of the Mezco figures from a few years ago to fulfill our Goonies toy needs, though. And yes, that Sloth is missing his Superman shirt as well.
The Universal Monsters ReAction figures are the ones I'm looking forward to the most, hopefully they will be out soon. I plan on reviewing those and the Bif Bang Pow Twilight Zone figures in October for Halloween. I'm also looking forward to the Pulp Fiction line, because that is such a crazy choice for retro action figures, and I'll probably get the entire Goonies line-up as well. Aside from that, I'm just cherry-picking whatever looks cool.
Delete...and an hour after I typed this, I checked on the Entertainment Earth website, and all of the Universal Monsters are in stock! Yes! Just placed my order.
