Jimmy Olsen and Lucy Lane Cheat on Each Other WITH Each Other

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises #3
"MAGI THE MAGNIFICENT"

Jimmy disguised himself as a magician named "Magi the Magnificent" in not one, but three stories, beginning with "Jimmy Olsen's Secret Love" in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #74.

The story begins with the sort of farfetched coincidence that tends to happen every other day in the Jimmy Olsen universe.  Jimmy's stewardess girlfriend, Lucy Lane, is given an assignment by her airline's boss.   She is to go on a flight in disguise, and secretly take photographs of the airline employees, to see who is doing their jobs, and who is goofing off.  Naturally, in order to ride the plane without drawing attention to herself, she disguises herself as Sandra Rogers, a glamorous British movie starlet that no one has ever heard of.  Because that makes perfect sense.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Olsen has received a tip that a wanted jewel thief may be flying on the same plane, and so he books a flight on the plane for himself, in order to try and catch him.  Naturally, in order to ride the plane without drawing attention to himself, he dresses as Magi the Magnificent, a top hat and tuxedo-clad stage magician (that no one has ever heard of), and performs magic tricks during the flight.  Because that makes perfect sense.

Lucy thinks Magi is "fascinating" because he has an inflatable rubber chicken.
The fun begins when Lucy and Jimmy are seated next to each other during the flight.  Neither one recognizes the other, but they both quickly start to fall in love, not realizing that they are cheating on each other with each other.

Jimmy and Lucy are both grinning ear-to-ear at the thought of breaking each other's hearts.
Then their plane crashes.  And they are shipwrecked on an iceberg.  Superman rescues them, and catches the jewel thief while he's at it.  But in the confusion, neither "Magi" nor "Sandra" thinks to give the other their phone number before they part.  Lucy and Jimmy then go back to dating each other, but both secretly wish they were with their alter-egos, not realizing that they actually are.

Magi the Magnificent and Sandra Rogers returned in issue 78, for a story titled "The Return of Jimmy's Lost Love."  In this issue, Lucy Lane is once again sent undercover by her airline, this time to catch a mail thief.  Once again she dresses up as "Sandra Rogers."  Jimmy, meanwhile, is just hanging out in the airport parking lot, and he spots her walking by.  Jimmy apparently keeps costumes and disguises in the trunk of his car, so he dresses up as Magi once again, and reunites with Sandra.  The two quickly rekindle their romance.  But this time, both of them become overwhelmed with the guilt of cheating on their real partners (not knowing they are their real partners), as well as lying about their identities.  But both think the other would be horrified to learn who they really are, so they don't dare stop lying.  Jimmy even imagines Sandra screaming ,"Oh, no!  No!  No!!" upon learning the truth.  So Jimmy decides to end it by claiming he is going "to Tibet to study ancient forbidden magic," and doesn't know if he will ever see her again.  Smooth, Jimmy.  Smooth.

Finally Magi and Sandra reunite once more in issue 82's "The Wedding of Magi and Sandra."  The story begins with Lucy Lane so distraught about losing Magi that she starts dressing up in her Sandra costume, and just wandering aimlessly around town, heartbroken.  She wanders in to a seedy section of Metropolis and almost gets mugged, but suddenly Magi appears and rescues her.

It seems Jimmy spotted "Sandra" wandering around, and switched in to his Magi costume and returned to her side in the nick of time.  The two then spend the night on the town together, and fall deeper in love then ever.  "Magi" then hints that he will propose marriage to Sandra the next night.

However, the next day, Jimmy starts to imagine how upset Sandra would be if she found out he was really Jimmy Olsen, and gets cold feet.  So he does the only sensible thing he could do in that situation.

He fakes "Magi's" death.
Not "Marvelous," Lucy.  He's Magi the "Magnificent." Jeez, kid, get with the program.

Smooth, Jimmy.  Smooth.

Now both Jimmy and Lucy are heartbroken, longing after their nonexistent lovers.  So they decide to "settle" for each other.  You know, like that old classic rock song, "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with?"  So Jimmy and Lucy elope.  But even as they say their "I Do's" they are choking back tears, because all they can think about is Magi and Sandra.  Also, I should point out that "this is not a hoax, or a dream, or an imaginary story."  Lucy and Jimmy really get married in this comic.

"I now pronounce you Mickey and Mallory Knox!"
After the ceremony, Jimmy and Lucy finally discover each other's secrets.  They are briefly angry with each other, but they quickly become overjoyed, as they realize they married the right people after all.  Then, just as the happy couple are about to leave on their honeymoon, the justice of the peace who performed their ceremony comes running up, screaming, "Thank goodness I caught you in time!  You aren't married!"

Question: "Are they crazy?"  Answer: "If you have to ask..."
It seems the justice of the peace hadn't checked his mail in a couple of weeks, and didn't realize that his "justice of the peace license" had expired.  So legally, Jimmy and Lucy's marriage was not valid.  And... despite the fact they were overjoyed to be married seconds earlier, both Jimmy and Lucy are totally cool with that.  The justice of the peace says his license will be renewed in a couple of days, and he can perform the ceremony for reals then, but Jimmy and Lucy blow him off and decide not to get married after all.  Then they drive back to Metropolis laughing.

Not shown in the final panel:  The Justice of the Peace's naked and bound body in Jimmy and Lucy's trunk.
In the past, I have said that Lucy is a terrible boyfriend for Jimmy, because she is fickle, goes out with other guys, and never treats Jimmy with any respect.  But now I see that they are actually perfect for each other.  Because they are both fucking insane.

BONUS! It may not be MAGI the Magnificent, but it's still pretty cool...

Jimmy Olsen Befriends Adolf Hitler

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises #4
"NAZI WAR HERO DISGUISE"

"Jimmy's D-Day Adventure," a story from Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #86, begins with Jimmy watching some old World War 2 newsreel footage when he is shocked to see film of someone who looks just like himself receiving an award from none other than Adolf Hitler!

Naturally, this piques Jimmy's curiosity.  So he grabs his time travel crystal ball (he keeps it on a shelf in his apartment, next to his globe), and travels back in time to D-Day, to find out who his Nazi look-a-like is.

"What a thrill!  Bullets are whizzing by me in every direction, and I'm surrounded by tens of thousands of dead and wounded soldiers!  Whee!"

Jimmy arrives in the past and puts together a fake Nazi uniform out of junk he finds discarded on the battlefield.  Then, using his cobbled together costume and the limited amount of German he learned in high school, Jimmy infiltrates the Nazis!  Now he'll be able to figure out who his look-a-like is and solve the mystery.

In the weeks that follow, Jimmy uses his knowledge of WW2 history to pretend to be able to predict the future, and quickly rises through the ranks of the Nazis.  Eventually he becomes Hitler's chief military adviser.  While getting photographed receiving a medal from Hitler, Jimmy realizes that he does not have a look-a-like... HE'S the Nazi War Hero!  It's an "ironic" twist!  Congratulations, Jimmy!

Jimmy Olsen Shaves His Head

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises  #5
"WINKY, THE KING OF CRIME"

In "The King of Crime," from Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #46, Jimmy is reading the newspaper when he learns of the escape of "Winky McCoy" a convicted felon known as "the King of Crime."  In an insane coincidence that only makes sense in the Jimmy Olsen universe, Winky looks almost exactly like Jimmy Olsen, except he is bald, has a scar, and has no freckles.  He also has a nervous twitch in one of his eyes when he gets excited, which is why people call him "Winky."  So Jimmy decides to go undercover as Winky, to learn where all of his secret hide-outs are, and who all the members of his gang are, so he can then tip off the police.

Jimmy shaves his head, covers up his freckles, and puts on a fake scar, then dresses up in a convicts uniform.  He then starts hanging around the alleys of Winky's old neighborhood in Metropolis, and is quickly picked up by Winky's gang.  Jimmy's plan worked.
Robert DeNiro as "Travis Bickle," in a dramatic scene from "Taxi Driver."
Jimmy thinks he will be bald by the time he is 40.
Winky's gang only consists of 5 or 6 guys, and it's not even remotely clear why Winky is considered to be the "King of Crime."  But they do have one thing... a gigantic, drum shaped chunk of kryptonite.  In the comics, even small pieces of kryptonite weaken Superman, so I'm pretty sure this giant one would straight up kill him.  The gang are planning on putting the kryptonite inside a marching band's drum, and then have the band play near Superman.  When Superman is killed, they are then going commit a "fur robbery."  A fur robbery.  Way to think big, guys.

But Jimmy, as "Winky," says he wants to put the kryptonite in the drum himself, since "I'm the best mechanic in the gang."  Because apparently, you have to be a good mechanic to unscrew a drum, put something inside it, and put it back together again.  When alone with the drum, he then coats the interior of the drum, including the drum skin, with lead, which blocks the kryptonite rays, and saves Superman's life.  No furs will be stolen today!
Because a drummer would never notice that his drum skin was coated with lead.
But Jimmy's victory was short-lived.  You see, Jimmy never bothered to tell Superman he was going undercover.  When the story began, Superman was on an "outer space mission."  Superman was constantly going away on outer space missions in these old Jimmy Olsen comics.  It makes me wonder if he really was in outer space, or if he just told Jimmy that so he could have some peace and quiet away from the shenanigans of his "pal."  Obviously Superman was back on Earth in time for the "kryptonite drum" incident, but Jimmy still never bothered to fill him in.  So as Jimmy and the gang members are sitting around the gang headquarters watching TV, a news report comes on, saying that Superman has just captured the real Winky trying to sneak back in to Metropolis!

The jig is up, and Jimmy is about to get shot dead by the angry criminals!  Luckily, the FBI bursts in and saves the day at the nick of time.  It turns out that earlier, Jimmy had used Winky's nervous eye twitch to wink at an FBI agent in Morse code.  Jimmy knew that someday his habit of winking at handsome men would pay off, but never like this!  Good job, Jimmy.
The comic ends with a handsome FBI agent massaging Jimmy's shoulders, as the two men wink at each other.

Jimmy Olsen uses the "mysterious power of yoga" to cheat at sports.

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises #6
"ORIENTAL RAJAH DISGUISE"
"We've never heard of you, and your country is not on any map... but telegrams don't lie!  Welcome to our resort!"
In the "The Five Fantastic Feats of Jimmy Olsen," from Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #73, Jimmy disguises himself as an "Oriental Rajah."  To me, the word "Oriental" is a politically incorrect term for an Asian (like someone from China, or Vietnam, for example).  So I was a little confused by Jimmy's costume in this comic, because it didn't fit my definition of "Oriental."  But after a quick bit of research, I found that the definition of the word "Oriental" has changed quite a bit over the years, so I'll assume it made sense at the time this comic was written.
Jimmy's Obsession with Bow-Ties Knows no Bounds
Jimmy's "Rajah" costume consists of a white turban with a big jewel in it, white shoes that curl up at the toes, large white earrings, a long pointy beard, a purple jacket, a white shirt with a frilly collar, white MC Hammer genie pants, and purple socks.
As the story begins, Jimmy is hanging around the race track disguised as a jockey.  He's trying to find evidence that a notorious gambler has been fixing the races.  In the Jimmy Olsen universe, the criminals' names reflect their crimes (see: Mr. Traitor), so naturally this guy is named "Mr. Fix."  Jimmy photographs Mr. Fix doping a horse, but before he has a chance to use the photo, Mr. Fix's sidekick "Shagg" (so named because he is a huge fan of The Shaggs?  If so, AWESOME!) pulls out his gun and shoots him dead... er, that is to say, shoots him with a gun loaded with sleeping gas and steals his camera's film.  Guns that do nothing but put Jimmy to sleep are also a traditional part of the Jimmy Olsen universe (see: same story linked to above).
I'm not an expert on yoga... but I don't think that's how it works.

Yoga is used to drive away poisonous snakes?  Again, I'm not an expert, but... no.
Jimmy is so frustrated by this turn of events, that he sets his sights not on exposing Mr. Fix, but on exacting revenge.  The story doesn't frame it that way, of course, but hear me out.  Jimmy's plan is to pose as an "Oriental Rajah" who is the absolute master of all sports thanks to "the mysterious power of yoga."  Naturally, Jimmy is cheating at all of these sports, but Mr. Fix doesn't know this.  After demonstrating his yoga sports powers at archery, basketball, and other sports (he even plays baseball and strikes out Mickey Mantle!), Jimmy joins a golfing contest, and convinces Mr. Fix to bet all of his money on it.  Then Jimmy plans to throw the game, causing Mr. Fix to lose all of his money.  Question: How will this prove Mr. Fix has been fixing horse races?  Answer: Not at All.  You see, Jimmy is just out for revenge.  Worse, since Mr. Fix makes all of his money by fixing horse races, he will probably have to fix even more races after this, to make his money back!  Jimmy is actually making things worse.

Take THAT, Mickey Mantle!  It's about time someone knocked that creep down a peg!
Eventually, during the big golf contest (which is supposed to be a big, public event, featuring movie stars and other celebrities raising money for charity), Mr. Fix finds out that the Rajah is really Jimmy Olsen.  He threatens to kill Jimmy if he doesn't win the game, but Jimmy doesn't have any of his trick balls with him.  The trick was that the balls were hollow, and inside was a Kandorian who was helping Jimmy cheat!  The Kandorians were residents of "The Bottle City of Kandor," a city from Superman's home planet of Krypton that was shrunk down and kept in a bottle.  The Kandorians have the same powers as Superman, but they are only an inch or so tall.  Without his trick balls, Jimmy can't win the game, which angers Mr. Fix so much that he throws a GRENADE(!) at Jimmy, despite the fact that he is:
  1. In the middle of a big celebrity golf tournament that must be full of onlookers, photographers, and TV cameras.
  2. Is only standing 10 feet away from Jimmy, meaning Mr. Fix himself would be in the blast radius of the grenade.
Barrrooom!
However, Jimmy emerges from the blast unscathed, and wearing a super suit!  It turns out though, that it's not really Jimmy at all, but a Kandorian Jimmy Olsen look-alike, from "The Look-Alike Squad," a club on Kandor for people who are look-alikes for Superman's friends.  Apparently, the Look-Alike Squad was monitoring Jimmy, and when Mr. Fix threw the grenade, they burst in to action by:
  1. Having the entire Squad Go to the Kandorian Police headquarters.
  2. Introducing themselves to the officer in charge.
  3. Enlarging the Jimmy Olsen look-alike to Earth Size.
  4. Shrinking the real Jimmy Olsen to Kandorian size.
  5. Switching places between the two of them using a transporter beam.
All in the time it took Mr. Fix to throw a grenade!  Does the Kandorian's shrunken state speed up the flow of time in the bottle or something?  Because otherwise, I'm not sure how that would work.  But that's not important.  The important part is that even Jimmy couldn't prove Mr. Fix was fixing the races, Fix can now be charged with attempted murder!  REVENGE, thy name is Olsen!

Jimmy Olsen Disguises Himself as Half of the Employees at a Hotel

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises #7
"HALF A DOZEN HOTEL EMPLOYEES DISGUISE"

I like the way Superman tries to talk to Jimmy out of the corner of his mouth, as if no one in the hotel lobby would notice him hanging out there.
Jimmy Olsen was no stranger to disguising himself as a hotel bell-hop.  He first did it in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #6, when he went undercover as a bell-hop to bust a counterfeiter at a magician's convention (don't ask) who had passed $25,000 in fake bills.  But he took things to the next level in the story "Disguises of Danger" in issue 48, when he took his entire costume trunk to a hotel, and imitated half of the staff, in order to catch another counterfeiter... one who had counterfeited 50 cents!

In the story, Jimmy discovers that a gangster named "Big Joe" has a fake 50 cent coin that will somehow make millions of dollars for the criminal world.  "Big Joe" then accidentally loses the coin in a poker game to another gangster, "Flush" Sawyer.  "Flush" is staying at the Metropolis Hotel, so Jimmy poses as a variety of different hotel employees, hoping to receive the 50 cent coin from "Flush" as a tip, so he can figure out how the criminals will use it to commit crimes.

Er...okay.
In order to not be recognized as Jimmy Olsen, Superman's pal and boy reporter, Jimmy dyes his hair brown, and covers his freckles with make-up.  He then changes into a variety of outfits during the course of the story, and continuously interacts with "Flush," hoping to get a 50 cent tip.  His costumes included:
  • A hotel bell-hop
  • The hotel doorman
  • The hotel barber
  • A window washer cleaning the hotel's windows
  • A waiter in the hotel's coffee shop
  • The hotel shoe shine boy
  • A blind man begging on the street outside the hotel
Surprisingly, given Jimmy's love of cross-dressing, he never dresses as the hotel's maid.

"And did I mention that my cousin, brother, uncle, and I all look identical?  It's kind of like the Patty Duke show, only more stupid.  That's perfectly believable, right?"
In all of these costumes Jimmy has exactly the same hair and face, he just wears different clothes.  At one point, the gangster notices that Jimmy looks familiar, and Jimmy plays it off, by saying he has a lot of relatives working at the hotel.  But really, unless he has half a dozen identical twins (sextuplets, I guess) it seems kind of far-fetched that "Flush" would believe that.  But this is a Jimmy Olsen comic, after all...  so the best thing to do is just accept it and move on.  Jimmy also runs into his girlfriend, Lucy Lane, who happens to be in the hotel for a stewardess convention (don't ask).  Lucy doesn't recognize him either, but for Lucy, that's nothing new.  I think she barley knows who Jimmy is when he is wearing his green suit and red bow-tie.

"I wonder if she'll recognize me?"  My heart broke just a little when Jimmy thought that.  Poor kid.
Eventually, Jimmy tricks the gangster into giving him the 50 cent coin.  Jimmy and Superman examine the coin, and discover that it is made out of  a mysterious metal that blocks the signal from Jimmy's Superman watch.  Superman then deduces that the criminals intended to give the coin to Jimmy all along, after which they would kidnap him, possibly kill him, and then go on a "crime rampage" throughout Metropolis.

Superman's not the sort to let a little thing like "probable cause" stand in his way.
But Superman has no evidence to prove this theory, other than the coin being made out of a mysterious metal.  And the theory doesn't even make sense if you think about it.  If they were going to kidnap Jimmy, blocking his Superman signal would be a good thing, sure.  But they could just carry some chunks of the mystery metal in their pockets while they attacked Jimmy, if that's what they wanted to do.  Why would they need to fashion the metal into a coin, and trick Jimmy into carrying it first, and then kidnap or kill him?  Like I said, it doesn't really make sense.  But once Superman gets an idea in his head, there's nothing anyone can do to stop him, I guess.  So Superman arrests the gangsters for their "conspiracy" to murder, kidnap, and go on a "crime rampage," and the last panel has Superman standing in the background, laughing at "Flush" and "Big Joe" as they are booked at the Police Station.  I hope those gangsters have a good lawyer.

Freak Out with Jimmy Olsen the Angry Hippie

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises #8
"HIPPIE DISGUISE"

Jimmy Looks Like a Freaky Creep, or a Creepy Freak.  Either Way, Lucy's Not Having It. .
In "Hippie Olsen's Hate-In!," from Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #118, Jimmy Olsen goes undercover as a hippie, so he can "mingle" with them to get a story for the Daily Planet.  So he grows his hair out for a few weeks.  But, man, Jimmy's hair must grow fast!  Because after a period of weeks, Jimmy's got a beard that would take a normal man a couple of years to grow, as well as hair down  to his shoulders.  As a long haired, bearded weirdo myself, I can attest that hair does not normally grow that fast.  Jimmy must shave, like, three times a day!
Note that it says "as Jimmy Olsen passes a barber shop," not his barber shop.  I'm guessing that every barber in town knows Jimmy by name.  Which actually bolsters my "Jimmy must shave 3 times a day" theory.  Maybe this scenario isn't so crazy after all!
So Jimmy goes undercover as a hippie to check out "Guru Kama's Dreamland Pad for Truth-Seeking Hippies," and immediately introduces himself to the guru as "Jimmy Olsen, reporter for the Daily Planet," apparently not clear on how an undercover disguise actually works.  This is tough luck for Jimmy, because it turns out the guru and his assistant are actually criminals in disguise, hiding out from the police!  And they DO understand how disguises work, so they don't introduce themselves to Jimmy as criminals.  Worse yet, they decide to use Jimmy Olsen as a way to kill Superman!

Life is but a Go-Go Dream
In order to trick Jimmy, the phony gurus pump some perfumed pink mist into the room he is in.  Using the sort of logic that only makes sense in Jimmy Olsen comic books, this perfumed mist convinces Jimmy that he must be dreaming, since perfumed pink mist could not possibly exist in real life.
"Why, if there is PINK MIST in the room, I MUST be dreaming!  That's the only explanation that makes any sense."
Convinced that he is dreaming, Jimmy first action is to go to the Daily Planet and punch Perry White in the face.  Because, after all, "it's only a dream," so why not?  And this is not prompted by the criminals, either, this was straight from Jimmy.

Smooth move, Olsen.
Seeing what a misanthrope Jimmy really is, the fake guru encourages Jimmy to continue acting out in his "dreams,"  eventually manipulating him in to "dreaming" of wanting to murder Superman.  And because Jimmy Olsen is the world's worst "best friend," he actually has a big stash of Kryptonite sitting around in the trophy room of his apartment to do it with.  Jimmy fashions the Kryptonite into "love bead" necklaces for all his hippie buddies to wear, and then he lures Superman to the scene of their latest protest so they can all kill him.
Man, check out Jimmy's evil glee as he plots to kill Superman in his "dream."  Dude's got issues, all I'm sayin'.
The plan almost succeeds, too.  Superman is moments away from death... laying on the ground, writhing in agony, being exposed to Kryptonite on all sides... but then Jimmy looks down, and notices he has gotten some paint smeared on his pants.  In another burst of mind-boggling Jimmy Olsen logic, he realizes he could never dream up something as crazy as getting some paint on his pants, therefore he must not be dreaming!  Quickly, he gathers up all the Kryptonite, and throws into a car's gas tank, and the lead in the gas blocks the deadly Kryptonite radiation, saving Superman's life!

"All You Need is Hate."  That was a Beatles song, right?
Superman then captures the criminals.  But, before he leaves, Superman decides to take a page from the playbook of Dragnet's Joe Friday, and lectures the hippies about their supposedly "free" (Superman's quotes on the word free, not mine) lifestyle.  The hippies are convinced by Superman's nonsensical speech, and agree to move back home, presumably to cut their hair and live normal, "straight" lives.  God bless America!
"This is the city: Metropolis, USA. I work here. I'm a superhero."

Jimmy Olsen Was Born to Be Wild!

Jimmy Olsen's Greatest Costumes and Disguises #9

"OUTLAW BIKER DISGUISE"

Take THAT, Flowers!
In "The Dragon Delinquent, " from Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #91, Jimmy attempts to infiltrate The Dragons, a teenage motorcycle gang that has been implicated in a series of bizarre thefts in his old home town.  So he adopts the moniker of "Fireball" James Oliver, buys a used motorcycle, and disguises himself with a leather jacket with a fireball on the back, a yellow wrestling belt, and a bright red cap.  Jimmy then has to prove he is a bad-ass outlaw if he wants to be accepted by this motorcycle gang.  So he:
  • Rides his motorcycle through a flower bed
  • Draws a rude picture of his female high school science teacher
  • Buys hot dogs and sodas for all the kids at the hot dog stand
  • Loses a fight with a teenage boy.
  • Crashes his motorcycle into a brick wall
  • Refuses to be intimidated by a robot
In other words, your typical Outlaw Biker Gang initiation stuff.  His "One Percenter" credentials now proven, he is accepted into the club.

Jimmy's definition of "hard-boiled delinquent" differs from most.
The Dragons have been accused of stealing weird worthless objects like weather vanes and flagpole ornaments, and it's up to Jimmy to find out why.  He discovers that the gang has a Superman robot working for them, a gift from their secret boss "Mr. Traitor."  It turns out that Mr. Traitor really is a traitor, too, who has been selling American secrets to foreign countries. In the story it is revealed that his name was originally Tray, but he had it changes to Traitor because he loved betraying America so much.
Jimmy's Milk Shake Brings All the Boys to the Yard
During the adventure, Jimmy encounters Batman and Robin (it turns out that Robin has also gone undercover in the gang), and gets shot at by a Quasimodo that keeps a gun stashed in his hump.

Jimmy is shot by a hunchback who keeps a gun inside his hump.  Although it's not a gun so much as a gun-shaped flashbulb.  Then Jimmy faints.
Finally, Jimmy, Robin, Batman, and Superman reveal the truth to the Dragons; that they are being used by Mr. Traitor to betray America.  The Dragons are shocked to learn that a man that calls himself "Traitor" actually is a traitor.  So they get all patriotic and agree to to help take Traitor down.  Tthe gang, along with Jimmy and Robin, ride off on their motorcycles to confront traitor.  But they ask Batman and Superman to stay behind, because they won't to capture the villain themselves.  The teenage heroes and hoodlums confront Traitor, and he responds by pulling out a machine gun and attempting to murder the lot of them.  Luckily for the boys, Superman ignored their request to capture Traitor by themselves, and swoops down at the last second, bouncing the bullets off his chest.

The bikers betray Mr. Traitor.  Only his gun shoots actual bullets.
The next day, Jimmy's story appears in the Daily Planet.  Jimmy is not around to enjoy it, though, as his time as an outlaw seems to have gone to his head.  We last see him blowing off work, and, still dressed in his biker disguise, riding off into the sunset, with his female science teacher holding on at his back.  Looks like Jimmy starting a new life as an "Easy Rider."
Get Your Motor Runnin'...
