Universal Monsters Select "Son of Frankenstein" Action Figure - Diamond Select (2015)

Universal Monsters Select Son of Frankenstein Action Figure (2015)
Because you can never have enough Boris Karloff action figures, here is Boris Karloff once again as Frankenstein's Monster from the 1939 film "Son of Frankenstein." Son of Frankenstein was the third Universal Frankenstein film, and Karloff's last starring as the Monster. This figure is from Diamond Select, and has the improved articulation that their newer figures have, with "over 16 points of articulation."  It has a great sculpt and paint job, and comes with an awesome diorama base featuring some rubble from Father Frankenstein's lab and a piece of preserved lab equipment.  It also comes with the prosthetic arm of Lionel Atwill's police inspector from the movie, which is a bizarre but morbidly fun addition.   Look for more monster figures coming up though November on this blog, since I never got all of my Halloween posts finished in time for October's MONSTER MONTH (but that's okay, because "Everyday is Halloween").

Universal Monsters Select "The Mummy" Version 2 Action Figure - Diamond Select (2015)

Universal Monsters Select The Mummy Version 2 Action Figure (2015)
More Mummies!  Boris Karloff returns as the Mummy again for the 20th monster of MONSTER MONTH!  This figure is from Diamond Select, and is their second version of this character, their first version looked great, but had practically no articulation, only moving at the neck.  This version has, according to Diamond "approximately 18 points of articulation," which is approximately a huge improvement.  It has a great sculpt and paint job, and comes with and awesome base and several diorama pieces.

Universal Studios Monsters "The Mummy" Boris Karloff Action Figure - Sideshow Toys (1998)

Sideshow Toys' The Mummy Boris Karloff Action Figure (1998)

Boris Karloff as the Mummy is the 19th monster of MONSTER MONTH!  This 7 inch action figure of Boris Karloff as The Mummy was released by Sideshow Toys in 1998.  It's got a nice paint job and sculpt with lots of well done texture and details.  The articulation is a bit limited, but still miles better than the version Diamond Select put out a decade later which had 1 point of articulation (the neck).  It comes with a few nice accessories, including a base for the figure to stand on, a chest that opens, a scroll, and stone tablet covered in hieroglyphics.

The Worst "Snake Tut" (Midnight Special Version) - Super7 (2016)

The Worst - Snake Tut (Midnight Special Version) (Super7, 2016)
Meet the 18th monster of Monster Month!  All hail Snake Tut!  This Ancient Egyptian half snake, half mummy is known as the "Serpent God of Destruction!"   He's one of the new retro 3 3/4" action figure line from Super7: The Worst! The Worst are Super7's take on classic monsters like vampires, robots, and mummies, but all with some cool new twists, and done in the style of classic Kenner figures from the 1970s and '80s. This figure is from the "Midnight Special" release of these figures, which are variant colored versions of these figures. The Midnight Special Versions of these figures were released about a month ago. The "regular" painted versions of these figures will be released some time in the future.

The Worst features awesome card art by Ed Repka

Snake Tut has the standard retro-style 5 points of articulation, and comes with a snake-shaped staff.   He has a great sculpt, like all the Worst figures, with lots of fun little details, highlighted by a maniacal smiling snake face that looks both malevolent and cartoonish in equal measure. He also has an "X" sculpted in to his belt buckle, and many of the other figures in this line have an "X" in their sculpt as well, and there is even an "X" in the logo for "The Worst." It seems like there are little details like that throughout this toy line that help to tie all the figures together.

Monster Month! Entry #17! Meet Black Falcon: "Undead Warlord of Doom!"  Part of Super7's "The Worst" line of action figures, which feature new characters steeped in classic horror iconography, and made in the style of vintage action figures from the 1970s and 1980s.   This figure is from the "Midnight Special" release of these figures, which are variant colored versions of these figures. The Midnight Special Versions of these figures were released about a month ago. The "regular" painted versions of these figures will be released some time in the future.

Black Falcon is an undead skeleton clad in fearsome spiked armor, with skulls, a falcon, and "The Worst's" trademark letter "X" as part of the sculpt of his armor.  He comes with an impressive sword, with a "horned" guard that matches the horns on his helmet.

The Worst - Batula (Midnight Special Version) (Super7, 2016)
Arriving on dark leather wings, it's Day 16 of Monster Month! Today's monster is Batula: "Bat Prince of Darkness!" Yes, Batula: he's half bat, half Scott Bakula, and all monster!  Batula is one of the new retro 3 3/4" action figure line from Super7: The Worst! The Worst are Super7's take on classic monsters like vampires, robots, and mummies, but all with some cool new twists, and done in the style of classic Kenner figures from the 1970s and '80s. Batula has the standard retro-style 5 points of articulation, and comes with a sweet skull-topped scepter that fits easily in his hand.   He also has an old school vinyl coat/cape, like the ones on vintage Kenner Star Wars or Remco Mini Monsters figures.   I really love this guy, he looks like a vampire that leaped out of an old Mighty Mouse cartoon. He has a great sculpt, like all the Worst figures, especially in the details of his bat head.  He also has an "X" sculpted in to his tie, and many of the other figures in this line have an "X" in their sculpt as well, and there is even an "X" in the logo for "The Worst." It seems like there are little details like that throughout this toy line that help to tie all the figures together. I'll be featuring every figure from The Worst "Midnight Special" set this month, so keep your eyes peeled for more!

X-2 (The Unknown) has the standard retro-style 5 points of articulation, and comes with a gun that fits easily in his hand.  He fits in great with vintage figures and modern retro figures alike.  he has a great sculpt with lots of neat little details, including some mechanical elements on his back and the back of his head, that indicate he might be more machine than man. He also has straps on his helmet and chest that form the letter "X," and many of the other figures in this line have an "X" in their sculpt as well, and there is even an "X" in the logo for "The Worst."  It seems like there are little details like that throughout this toy line that help to tie all the figures together.  I'll be featuring every figure from The Worst "Midnight Special" set this month, so keep your eyes peeled for more!

Swamp Thing "Snap Up Swamp Thing" Vintage 5 Inch Action Figure - Kenner (1990)

Kenner "Snap Up Swamp Thing" (1990)

Enter the boggy waters of MONSTER MONTH Day 12 with Swamp Thing!  This is "Snap Up Swamp Thing" which was part of Kenner's Swamp Thing toy line based on the Swamp Thing cartoon.  This figure has limbs that come loose from his body and are only attached by a string, which lets him lie on the ground in pieces looking like a pile of mossy logs.  Then, you press a button on his back his pieces "snap up" back together.
