NECA Aliens Series 2 - 1979 Alien Xenomorph (2014)

Day 11 of MONSTER MONTH.  The terror inducing Xenomorph from the 1979 film Alien.  This action figure is made by NECA and stands about 9 inches tall.  It's said to have over 30 points of articulation.  It's a great looking detail, with an extremely detailed sculpt, and a "corroded" looking paint wash that helps to make all of those details pop.

I had a few quality control issues with this figure.  When I first opened the package, a piece of the Alien fell out.  It turned out to be one of the "spines" on it's back.  Luckily, the piece was not broken, just loose, and it popped back in to place.  Worse, one of it's ankle joints either broke and was glued together at the factory, or the plastic somehow melted and fused together.  Either way, one foot is permanently stuck in a somewhat awkward position, making it difficult to pose and stand the figure.  The Alien's tale helps in this respect, though, as it made of a soft material with a bendable wire inside, allowing you to position it however you'd like, which makes it much easier to balance the figure.

MONSTER MONTH reaches Day 10 with the fearsome alien reptile species known as the Gorn!  This fellow is from the season 1 Star Trek episode "Arena," which originally aired January 19th 1967.  In the episode powerful aliens called Metrons place Captain Kirk and the captain of the Gorn spaceship they have been pursuing on a deserted planet and command them to fight to the death.

CAPTAIN'S LOG, SUPPLEMENTAL: "Weaponless, I face the creature the Metrons called a 'Gorn'. Large, reptilian... Like most Humans, I seem to have an instinctive revulsion to reptiles."

This is a really nice action figure, possibly my favorite from the Funko ReAction Star Trek line.  Both the sculpt and the paint apps are very good, better than figures of of the Enterprise crew. That's probably because there weren't any likeness rights to negotiate for The reptilian alien, freeing the artists at Funko to do their best work.

The Tick - "Growing" Dinosaur Neil Action Figure - Bandai (1994)

MONSTER MONTH Madness continues for the 9th day, with the mustachioed menace of Dinosaur Neil!  Dinosaur was one of the action figures Bandai released in 1994 for the animated The Tick cartoon.  The figure stands at a minuscule 5 inches, but has an extending mid-section that increases his height to a majestic 6 inches!  But certainly his most terrifying feature is his fearsome "Magnum P.I." mustache, just like the one John Oates from the band Hall and Oates sold his soul to the Devil for! 

Which is a true story, by the way.  Most people think Oates sold his soul to Satan in exchange for his successful music career, but really he just did it for the fearsome satanic mustache.  In return, Beelzebub expected Oates to perform a human sacrifice at least once a year.  And on those occasions when you have seen Oates WITHOUT the mustache, it's not because he shaved it, it's because he neglected to perform a human sacrifice that year, so Satan withheld the 'stache from him until he performed the evil deed.  Again, this a true story.

Oh yeah, by the way... Dinosaur Neil!  What a swell toy.

Scooby-Doo "The 10,000 Volt Ghost" Action Figure - Character Options (2013)

The 10,000 Volt Ghost

It's MONSTER MONTH, Day 8!  Today I'm looking at another scary Scooby-Doo monster: The 10,000 Volt Ghost!  It first appeared on TV in 1976 in "The Scooby Doo Show" episode "Watt a Shocking Ghost."   This action figure was part of a 10 figure set that was available at Toys R Us and other stores a few years ago.

The 10,000 Volt Ghost appears to be a ghostly creature composed of pure electricity, and conducts an electrical field powerful enough to melt metal.  Of course, like all classic Scooby-Doo villains, the monster is really a criminal in disguise.

MONSTER MONTH Day 7 is here, with the "Skeletor's Evil Henchman": Beast Man!  This hairy monster is from Super7's new line of 3 3/4" Masters of the Universe figures.  These toys reimagine the Masters of the Universe as if they were designed by a company like Kenner in the same style as their 3 3/4" Star Wars figures.

Get this guy a shave, a haircut, and some dental work... and he'd still be pretty scary looking!

Beast Man has the classic 5 points of articulation, and comes with a whip as his accessory.

Jason Edmiston's card art on these figures is fantastic, and has me tempted to buy two copies of each figure so I can open one and display the other on the card.

Oh my gob, I'm having a NERDGASM!  The new 1966 Adam West and Burt Ward animated movie isn't even out yet, and they are already making a sequel... a sequel with WILLIAM SHATNER as Two-Face!  My two favorite heroes from 1966, Adam West and the Shat-man, in one movie!  My brain is exploding with joy!

It's Day 6 of MONSTER MONTH!  Death beats it's reptilian wings when the Gozo the Pterodactyl Socket Poppers action figure descends from the sky!  Socket Poppers were action figures designed with detachable heads and limbs that could be swapped between the figures to make crazy combinations.  They are in the 3 3/4 inch scale and have classic Kenner style 5 points of articulation.  They were originally made by Matchbox Toys in 1990, as part of their "Con-Nec-Tors" line of action figures.  Matchbox is best known for their toy cars, and the Con-Nec-Tors were actually a spin-off of Matchbox's Con-Nect-Ables line of cars.  The figures didn't really take off, but a year later Ertl Toys picked up the license from Matchbox and rereleased them under the name "Socket Poppers."  There were a total of 16 figures in these toy lines.
